Large sculpture titled "Orpheus" by Swedish artist John Lundqvist. Made in Sweden in 1928. Executed in plaster with a gilded and green patinated finish. Signed with the artist signature and year 1928. Good condition with some age related marks and light scratches/fleabites.
John Lundqvist, 1882-1972, studied at the technical school in Stockholm and worked as the assistant of Christian Eriksson before studying art in Paris between 1919-1927. His work was highly inspired by gothic sculpture and the work of August Rodin as well as drawing inspiration from the work of Carl Milles. HIs work has been rised publicly through Sweden with his most significant sculpture "Uppståndelsemonumentet" at Uppståndelsekapellet at Skogskyrkogården by Sigurd Lewerentz and Gunnar Asplund. HIs work is represented at National museum and the Modern Museum in Stockholm.
